Sulawesi is an island located in the Indonesian archipelago and the vest is made from over 150 seaheart beans drilled and tied over a fiber backing. These hard discs provided protection to the indigenous tribes of Sulawesi as they hunted and warred against each other. Each vest is unique and is a reflection of the community and artisan that produced them. Not only did this offer protection but they were a status symbol within the tribal community.
